Hof says that individuals should perform the practice daily.Īs a person becomes more accustomed to the method, their initial 30–40 breaths should come closer together so that they are hyperventilating while still breathing as deeply as possible. After completion take time to meditate and enjoy the state of deep relaxation.Repeat the whole process, steps #2-6, 3-4 times.Inhale very deeply to full capacity and hold for 15 seconds, then let it go.Hold the breath until you feel the urge to breathe again. Take one final, deep inhalation then let the air out and stop inhaling.Take 30–40 such breaths in short bursts.Exhale through the mouth, then immediately breathe in again.Breathe in deeply through the nose or mouth and through the belly to the chest.According to Hof, beginners should start as follows: The foundation of the Wim Hof Method is its breathing technique. Several professional athletes who have adopted the method claim that it has improved their performance. Anecdotally, users report greater feelings of well-being, the ability to hold their breath for very long periods, and a reduction in depression and anxiety. Research on hyperventilation generally - not the Wim Hof Method specifically - suggests that rapid breathing may relax the brain and decrease elevated pressure in the skull. In a 2021 study, researchers observed 15 amateur sprinters. Most of the studies have been very small, meaning that they cannot provide conclusive data. These studies attempted to measure the method’s ability to enhance specific capacities, with the results varying. A handful of studies have assessed the Wim Hof breathing method. ![]()

This books provides a fascinating glimpse into the mind, life, times, and combative techniques of one of the eighteenth century’s most unusual and formidable real-life characters. These contests pitted McBane against some of the most celebrated gladiators of the period, including James Miller (who later authored a treatise on fencing), the infamous (and nearly undefeated) James Figg, and even Figg’s fencing master, Timothy Buck. ![]() Thanks to the diligent research of Ben Miller, numerous specimens of McBane’s original challenges are included in this publication. McBane claimed to have fought a total of thirty-seven prize fights, but he provides few details about them, mentioning the name of only one of his antagonists. The second section of the book is McBane’s memoir of his adventurous life, declared by one historian to be “possibly, the most ingenuous autobiography in the English language.” In this new edition, many of the incredible details related by McBane have been verified for the first time. McBane also includes a unique section on “dirty tricks” used by other swordsmen of the time, and methods of how to defend against them. No other known extant British fencing treatise published during the eighteenth century includes such an eclectic mix of weapons. The first section of McBane’s treatise covers the use of a large number of arms, including the backsword, small-sword, spadroon, quarterstaff, sword and targe, sword and buckler, Spanish rapier, Portuguese rapier, sword and dagger, Dutch knife, Lochaber axe, pike, halberd, falchion, sword and pistol, dueling pistol, and broadsword on horseback. He published his book, The Expert Sword-Man’s Companion, in 1728 where he recounts it all. During the span of his extraordinary career as a soldier, prize fighter, fencing master, and brothel manager, McBane took part in 16 battles, 15 skirmishes, and nearly 100 duels or personal combats. Donald McBane was a Scottish Highlander and one of the most accomplished duelists of the 18th century. This new edition is a faithful transcription presented with meticulously restored illustrations. Using a water clock for goldbeating a goldleaf in Mandalay ( Myanmar). While never reaching a level of accuracy comparable to today's standards of timekeeping, the water clock was the most accurate and commonly used timekeeping device for millennia, until it was replaced by more accurate pendulum clocks in 17th-century Europe. These early water clocks were calibrated with a sundial. ![]() Some water clock designs were developed independently, and some knowledge was transferred through the spread of trade. Independently, the Chinese developed their own advanced water clocks, incorporating gears, escapement mechanisms, and water wheels, passing their ideas on to Korea and Japan. Further advances were made in Byzantium, Syria, and Mesopotamia, where increasingly accurate water clocks incorporated complex segmental and epicyclic gearing, water wheels, and programmability, advances which eventually made their way to Europe. The Greeks and Romans advanced water clock design to include the inflow clepsydra with an early feedback system, gearing, and escapement mechanism, which were connected to fanciful automata and resulted in improved accuracy. A water clock is one of the oldest instruments ever, and one of the most important. Their timekeeping is governed by a pendulum, but they use water for other purposes, such as providing the power needed to drive the clock by using a water wheel or something similar, or by having water in their displays. Some modern timepieces are called "water clocks" but work differently from the ancient ones. ![]() As the container fills, the observer can see where the water meets the lines and tell how much time has passed. An inflow water clock works in basically the same way, except instead of flowing out of the container, the water is filling up the marked container. As the water leaves the container, an observer can see where the water is level with the lines and tell how much time has passed. This container has markings that are used to show the passage of time. In an outflow water clock, a container is filled with water, and the water is drained slowly and evenly out of the container. There are two types of water clocks: inflow and outflow. If viscosity is neglected, the physical principle required to study such clocks is Torricelli's law. The bowl-shaped outflow is the simplest form of a water clock and is known to have existed in Babylon, Egypt, and Persia around the 16th century BC. I'm interested to see what this software brings to the table, but not sure that it will do anything special that would get me to change the way I have been doing this for years. You can also easily find such templates on the web, I've even found custom fold-able disc envelopes for Libre Office. It is easily enough to create a basic template of the proper dimensions for such programs and then use it to quickly put together very custom inserts. I've been doing inserts in other graphics programs such as Corel Draw, Photoshop, Libre Office, and even Gimp. So the ability to print directly to a disc, as nice as it would be, is worthless to me. Having seem too many Espon printers become worthless from a simple clogged ink jet, I simply will never buy such a printer again. Haven't used a stick on label for years because of this. I learned long ago that adhesive labels can actually affect the data layer of a disc over time. I grabbed my copy, it activated fine under XP. Thank you GOTD and RonyaSoft for today's offering. It seems I'm going to have to give myself reason to use it. My only complaint is that I have litte use for it at the moment. I have another labeler or two already, and this stands out to me as superior. There are multiple templates for discs and all the standard size cases (CD/DVD/Blu-ray even paper sleeves), plus a template generator to make your own custom sizes (not sure why you'd need this, but the option is there). That is my prefered method anyway, to do all the 'dirty work' in an image editor and import the results. Other then that, this is a great labeling program and by pairing this with full fledged image editor, there would be little one could not achieve. I have about 3000 fonts on my computer, and after a brief look thru, I couldn't find any that were not useable.
